From Steamworks Brewing in Burnaby BC comes their “Brut IPA”. This is a new style of IPA that is exploding in the US right now. The beer finishes very dry by adding an enzyme amylase that breaks down the sugars reducing sweetness and kicking up the mouthfeel. The beer pours a yellow colour with a white head. The aroma consists of grain, some citrus with a floral hop finish. The flavour is of grain, some generic citrus, grapefruit, resin, mineral notes and a mild to medium bitterness. This brew was fairly carbonated and definitely was not very sweet. The alcohol content comes in at 6.6%. This is definitely a different style of IPA and I look forward to trying more as it was totally different and it was my first every Brut IPA.
Commercial description: Our new Brut IPA juxtaposes a vibrant hop aroma with an effervescent mouthfeel, light body and minimal bitterness. It’s a perfect beer for warm summer months or any time you need some bubbly to celebrate with.
