From Fernie BC’s Fernie Brewing comes their “Barrel Aged Baltic Porter” a beer Aged in El Dorado Rum Barrels.  The beer pours a deep opaque black with a brown head.  The aroma consists of huge rum notes, chocolate, sweetness, toffee and brown sugar.  The flavour is of rum, oak, dark fruits, chocolate, roasted malts with boozy notes in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 11.3% with an IBU of 27.  I think the dark fruit notes must have come from the rum barrels and I did not expect it but I did quite enjoy this brew.

This complex brew is a rich, dark lager with caramel, toffee and vanilla flavours.  This dark brew was aged in oak barrels which once held bourbon, before being shipped to Guyana, where they were filled with rum for 12 years.   This Special Release is available November 2018, for a very limited time only.
