Triticale Super Saison – Coal Harbour Brewing

From Coal Harbour Brewing in Vancouver comes their “Triticale Super Saison”. The beer poured a copper orange colour with a white head. The aroma consists of yeast, floral hops, peppery spice, citrus rind and citrus. The flavour is of peppery spice, yeast, citrus rind, pith, citrusy, wheat, rye spice, low bitterness with maybe a hint of berries in the background. The alcohol content comes in at 7.4% with an IBU of 21. A well made saison can really hit the spot. I would classify this one as a well made one and if you still have a bottle open it soon.

Commercial Description: First bred during the late 19th century in Scotland and Germany, Triticale is a hybrid of wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale), which adds a delicate note of spice and a fuller, richer body to this Saison. Lemon peel, Szechuan Peppercorns and a touch of Blackberry make for a complex brew, while the yeast adds a refreshing tartness with aromatic esters.
