From Steamworks Brewing in Burnaby BC comes their “Scarlet Red Rye Ale” a Rye Barley Wine that is part of their 2017 Barrel Aged series.  This beer won a Silver at the World Beer Cup 2018 in the Wood & Barrel-Aged Strong Beer category.  The beer pours an orange brown colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of candied sugar, leather, plums, dark fruits, sweetness, oak and rye whiskey.  The flavour is of candied sugar, leather, plums, dark fruits, sweetness, oak, vanilla, rye whiskey, bitterness and alcohol.  The alcohol content comes in at 9.5%.  Now that it is mid 2018 this beer is tasting even better that it did when I had it fresh.  This was one enjoyable barrel aged Barley Wine.
